Being in a Forest

Being in a forest as the light pours in. Walking barefoot on moss. Midnight wanders in wild places. Coffee and clouds. Dawn and dusk. Skinny dipping. Moonlight and the Milky Way. Picnics and poetry. The perfect sentence. Dancing with the wind. Walks in the rain. Food from the garden. Music, songs, and singing. When the leaves turn gold. Being enraptured by a sky of stars. Watching a tortoise walk All the things to still learn. All the trees to love. The ecstasy of finishing a perfect meal. Contemplating the great mysteries of existence. Bats. Owls. Ravens. Storms. Dreams. Moths. Mountain ash. The song of a hermit thrush. The smell of lilac. The euphoria of petrichor. Laughing hysterically for hours on end. The susurrus sound of rustling leaves. The call of...

The Joyous Body: Weekly Online Course for Women

The Joyous Body “It is the nature of the saplings to quake in the winds; hesitant, learning to hold their own places. But, the older trees, with their years of testing and being tested, they are the ones who, whether in the long stern winds or misty gales, sway the most.  Less a bouquet of tentative trembling first-time buds, now much more the leaf-perfumed hips of a hundred wide women dancing—these old ones, regardless of form, sway, by heart, to the music that thunders through them.” —Clarissa Pinkola Estés, PhD Phoenix Arrien  invites you into nourishing community and empowering spaces on this program from Clarissa Pinkola Este's original stories, poems, and psychological commentary on the challenges, remedies, and ancient knowings of the holy female body, “that which is not...

Mother Night: Weekly Online Course for Women

WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT IS YOUR LIFE ABOUT? Touch on the memory of who we really are, who sent us here, and what is our work here … and why are we often so unusual, so different, so eccentric, so belonging often to a tribe of one? Join Phoenix Arrien as she guides us through Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés's archetypal imagination course in “Mother Night, the quintessential medial woman, the woman who can walk in tw o worlds … 'the one who knows' and who can reveal solid ways of living and unleashing creative life in both worlds.” The program Mother Night is presented online from Clarissa, a  Jungian psychoanalyst and author of Women Who Run With the Wolves, interspersed with sharing, exercises and reflections, over 6 weeks, as we tap the generative...

Trauma-informed Spaces

When we say we are trauma-informed, what does that actually mean? Safety: Ensuring that you feel physically and emotionally safe. This does not mean you will always feel safe because of personal factors, what you carry in with you and occasional mistakes by us, but that you are essentially safe. Trustworthiness: We try. We may not always get close to the mark but we believe that listening and understanding where you are at helps us to maintain a helpful level of trust. Choice: It is up to you to participate as much or as little as you want. Collaboration: Healing is a journey together. Trauma-informed is not an end state, but a process. We are always learning and developing to become trauma aware, trauma sensitive, trauma responsive and trauma-informed. We both...

Changes

There are changes here at Innate Wisdom Connection and exciting news! This year has been one of tidal wave changes for me and for IWC. With trust and keeping focused on the vision, this is what is unfolding: I have had a long-term dream of creating a healing place in nature all my life. At the last two week retreat I consolidated this intention and shared it when I stepped into the Intention Circle. Soon after I let go of my home in Warburton and the very next day the right place presented itself. I, along with my partner Daryl, will be custodian of 2 beautiful acres by a gorgeous creek adjacent to magnificent state forest in Reefton, 20 minutes into the mountains from Warburton in the Upper...

Can we be open-hearted and sceptical at the same time?

Mike writes: A friend asked this question recently: Do you believe in balancing a sceptical mind with an open heart? And what does that mean for you? It’s a great question and I believe that balancing healthy scepticism with an open heart is the essence of a grounded spirituality. To quote Jesus: “Behold, I send you out as sheep among wolves. Therefore be as wise as serpents and harmless as doves.” To me this means being under no illusions about people. Everyone behaves, at times, like a wolf – even though some are dressed up like sheep. We ALL have shadows and sooner or later, despite our good intentions, we hurt people, let them down, betray them. All of us! And yet we find it really hard to accept this...
